What is Cerezen?
Cerezen is a revolutionary device that effectively treats jaw pain and symptoms associated with teeth grinding and clenching. This innovative, custom made device, which is worn in your ears is an alternative to traditional bite splints that you wear in your mouth.
The inserts are hollow, allowing you to hear, and are so discreet, no one will know you are wearing them. They are designed to sit in the ear canal, and they need only be removed for contact sports, swimming or showering, so you can go about your normal life.

What is TMD?
Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a problem affecting the ‘chewing’ muscles and the joints between the lower jaw and the base of the skull.
It’s been estimated that up to 30% of adults will experience TMD at some point in their lives.
The condition itself isn’t usually serious, but the symptoms can cause patients a lot of discomfort and can significantly lower quality of life.

What symptoms can TMD cause?
• clicking, popping or grating noises as you chew or move your mouth
• muscle pain around the jaw
• pain in front of the ear that may spread to the cheek, ear and temple
• difficulty opening the mouth – the jaw may feel tight, as if it is stuck, making eating difficult
• headache or migraine
• earache or a “buzzing” or blocked sensation in the ear
• pain in other areas of the body – such as neck ache or backache
• The above symptoms may also lead to related symptoms, such as disturbed sleep.
• Tooth wear

How do I know if I am suitable for Cerezen and how do I get it?
Churchfield Dental Centre offers a free Cerezen consultation, once a member of our reception team has booked you a consultation date, we will send you a Cerezen assessment pack to fill in. The assessment pack asks a few easy questions which will help the Dentist see if you are suitable for the Cerezen devices.
When our dentist is happy that Cerezen will work for you, an audiologist will come to the practice and take a set of inner ear impressions. These impressions are then sent to a laboratory where they are digitally scanned and the Cerezen devices are then made on a high Tec 3D printer.
Once your devices have arrived back to the practice (usually within two weeks), one of our Cerezen trained team will help you fit your devices and off you go!

If you would like any further information about Cerezen or TMD please call the practice on 01226771471.
